Jelly Fish Toast & Jam Card Game
2 to 6 players, age 7 and up.
Jelly Fish Toast and Jam is a fast set-collection card game for 2 to 6 players. In our game, players build matching character sets in front of them while stealing cards from opponents and protecting their own piles. Each turn follows three sequential actions: draw a card, steal an exposed card, and cover a pile with a mystery shield card from the deck.
Setup and Deck
Our 80-card deck contains character cards with matching background colors. We shuffle the deck and deal one card face up to each player. Place the remaining deck face down in the center of the table as the draw pile. The youngest player takes the first turn, and play passes to the player on the left.
Taking Your Turn
On your turn, you carry out three specific steps in order. First, draw the top card from the draw pile and place it face up in front of you. Second, steal an eligible card from another player. Third, draw the top card without looking at it and place it face down on a card or partial set to cover it. If you draw a card for a character you already finished, give it to another player who still needs that character. If nobody can take it, place it at the bottom of the draw pile.
Stealing and Protection
You cannot steal cards from completed sets or cards protected beneath a face-down cover card. You cannot steal cards matching a character set you already finished. You may steal an opponent face-down cover card without looking first, then flip it face up in front of you. Cover cards protect the cards underneath them. You can continue adding matching cards to a covered set. Once a covered set is complete, turn over the cover card and give it to an eligible player. If all your cards are covered, skip the cover step.
Completing Sets and Winning
A completed set consists of matching character cards. All completed sets must be unique characters. When you finish a set, place it together sideways and face up off to the side. In games with 2 to 4 players, you must collect 3 sets of 4 matching cards. In games with 5 to 6 players, you must collect 3 sets of 3 matching cards. The first player to complete three unique sets wins the game.
